This scientific opinion published on 11 January 2011 replaces the previous version published on 17 November 2010. Following a request from European Commisssion, the Panel on Animal Health and Welfare was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the increased mortality events in Pacific Oysters (Crassostrea gigas). The mandate terms of reference specifically requested to assess the relative importance of possible causes, including infectious agents with special focus on Ostreid Herpesvirus-1(OsHV-1) µvar), as well as environmental factors. It was also requested to assess which other mollusc species could be involved and finally the risk of infection posed by the transference of adult Pacific oysters when they are sourced from an area affected by the increased mortality event.
