“These animals must be euthanized, and farmers will receive compensation for them,” Dr. Stankov said.

“Mosquitoes, flies, mites infect domesticated animals directly. The disease is transmitted quickly among animals, but it is not dangerous to humans. The first outbreak was discovered in the village of Voden. So far nine centres in seven towns in Dimitrovgrad Municipality and a village in the municipality of Haskovo have been established,” Dr. Georgi Stankov said.

“It is necessary to carry out timely and rapid vaccination of all susceptible animals to the viral disease called nodular dermatitis (lumpy skin disease, LSD). First, it must be done so in the area where outbreaks have been found.” That is what chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Bulgarian Veterinary Union Dr. Trifon Tsvetkov said.

According to him, in view of the emerging distribution of the disease the current measures are no longer efficient.

“The funds will be provided by the state,” he noted.
