FOCUS: Dr Chobanov, how long will the treatment lumpy skin disease in the regions close to the Danube will last and what area will it cover?
Georgi Chobanov: We have already launched the treatment of that territory. I mean the lands south of the river. Mosquitoes, which spread lumpy skin disease the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) is fighting, breed in some places there. Our work has covered all districts.
Georgi Chobanov: As regards the spreading of lumpy skin disease cattle catch, if there are infected animals and mosquitoes bite them, they begin to carry the disease and they can transmit it to healthy animals. Killing the population of adult mosquitoes, we in practice eliminate the possibility of the disease being transmitted from infected to healthy animals. In the meantime, there will be no mosquitoes to bite people in the districts where the treatment is underway.
