Uruguay extreme controls to prevent the onset of disease in the citrus Huanglongbing. Nurseries, plantations are inspected and entry of all plant material is prevented from Brazil and Argentina. While the increase border controls to prevent the entry of any plant material, the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries promotes agreements with citrus enterprises looking to increase inspections of nurseries and crops, to cases of Huanglongbing (HLB) in citrus Argentina. The disease came to Concordia and is generating conflict between Argentine growers and health authorities. It is caused by a bacterium (Candidatus liberobacter asiaticus) and the main vector of transmission are plants without certification of origin (it spreads by buds, grafts, tools, etc.).
