ALLOUEZ (WLUK) -- Add Allouez to the list of communities where the emerald ash borer has been documented.
Village officials say the bug was found in a tree along the East River north of Wiese Park. That's on the southeast side of Allouez. EAB has already been documented in Green Bay, De Pere, Howard and Ashwaubenon.
EAB is a concern because the insect's larvae feeds on the inside of ash trees, which causes the trees to become unstable. The trees can cause injuries or damage if they fall over.
Since the insect can be embedded in harvested wood, moving firewood is not allowed outside quarantined areas, which include several area counties.
Those who suspect their tree has EAB can contact a local tree service or the village's Urban Forestry Division. The village has also set up a website with information on treatment options.
